Earthquake Surprise
Posted: (July 29, 2008 03:02 pm)

So as I am helping a customer with a transaction at the bank, the teller next to me suddenly looks up and asks, "Are we having an earthquake?"   It was at that moment that I realized the bank was shaking... the walls, counters, and everything!!    I am from PA so I really have not experienced an earthquake before!  The building that I work in is a high rise in the Koreatown part of Los Angeles.  The building is on rollers for this such incident.  Instead of being as shaky as a typical earthquake would have been we felt the building rolling back and forth to minimize the shaking.  Apparently after the fact we found out that the earthquake originated out in the Chino Hills area and it was about a 5.8 on the Richter.  What we felt here several miles away was one of the aftershocks.  Let me tell you it certainly came as a shock to me.  It was kind of nerve wrecking and my equilibrium was off for a while afterward.  Pretty exciting!!

Wait til LA gets a 7.0 or greater than you'll really feel it. The rolling theory is to keep the building from coming down on you. They tested this on "Mythbusters".

Shaky Ground

My uncle lives in Chino. He was outside when the quake started and it knocked him down. He told me was laying on the ground and his pool was actually being emptied all over him.
