line of storms forming and moveing right along the main line pa turnpike
Posted: (June 27, 2008 03:43 pm)

well we have had sun shine for most of the day and that has alowed the cape to get in to the 2500 level  and it is still rising on acount of all of the sun shine that we have today now over the last 3 days a system/front has been moving moving a littel more east each day and the past 2 days the storms have been getting closer to our area but never did make it after sun set but today the storms have formed much closer over the mountains of central pa and are moving east and should move in to the philadelphia area by 6pm as they move east rain assocated with them on there back side just behind the squall line of the storms wiill increase its area of coverage and wiil bring us some needed moderate to heavy rain right now the storms are hitting the easteren section of the central pa mountains and the line is from about wilamsport on south down to martinsburgh virgina and is moving east at about 22 mph

area getting affected right now are the pa turnpike where the storms and rain are causing slow traffic do to the fact that volume levels are high due to weakend summer traveling traffic this storm should continue to affect traffic along the turnpike inbetween now and 7pm  here is the current conditions and camera images from the turnpike starting from west then the last one on the bottom being in the fattheast section getting hit by the storms on the turnpike and as they move east I will post more
Pavement Condition: Dry
Air Temp: 68
Rel Humidity: 85
Wind Speed: 11
Wind Gust: 17
Wind Direction: SW
Precip Intensity: Unknown
Precip Type: None
Visibility: 1.10

in this area the rain has just ended

traffi at mile post 210  in the west bound direction is starting to back log and congestion is building due to heavy down pours and heavy volume levels in the area

click here to view the camera

just east of there the storm is just aproaching and traffic is heavy but moving

click here to view the camera image

on the new bridge in the haris burgh area of the traffic there is even heavy traffic for the 6  lane  bridge in both the west bound direction and east bound direction and the traffic flowing west bound will move in to the rain within the next 20 so look for delays to continue to build in the 2 lane in each direction area just west of harisburgh

traffic camera over the srb bridge on the east wes main line of the turnpike

there are other non weather but volume level related delays on the mainline at fort washing ton there is congestion in  both directions building and is more so building in the westbound direction on up to the on ramps to the north east exstion as of right now the northeast exstion is just slow but that will soon become congested on the north bound side in its usuall spot on up to lands dale interchange

traffic getting on and off at harisburgh east interchange is slower than normal and in the east bound direction of main line from just east of readin to aproaching the morgan town inter change trafiic is starting to back log due to volume levels heaver tthen the mainline can handel

finaly traffic in the mountains area of the turnpike is running about 10 to 15 mph below the normal  spped limt due to wet roads and heavy volume levels

as the storms move moree east i will have more on the traffic conditions with the storms but as of right now the great news is there are no accidents on the turnpike from the storms hoorayyyyyyyy

now the time line for the storms the storms are moving east at 22 mph and harisburgh will get them as strong storms with some wind gust up to 35mph and heavy rain fall and also frequent cloud to ground lighting is also possible with this line hail is possible but at this tiem is not the main threat the biggest threat at the moment is the heavy rain effecting the evenong commute by 4pm

reading lancaster area is where the line will be slightly stronger and will have more rain with it on its back end expect much of the same as harisburgh but winds here could reach 40 to 45mph and .3- .5 of rain coulld fall with this line it should reacj lancaster and reading by 5pm right at the height of rush hour traffic and a few severe thunderstorm warnings are possible with this

westeren mountgoumery county leigh county chester county north west bucks county will be in the storms by 5:30 pm and strong winds up to 45mph are possible and also small hail lfrequent cloud to ground lighting and ver heavy rain fall will fall with this there could be an isolated flood advisory/flash flood warning for an isolated area as up to a quick inch is possible with this line

philadelphia  delawere easteren mountgoumery county easteren bucks and northhampton county the storms will move in by 6:15 pm and it will have a few severe thunderstorm warnings with it as it will contain u[p to 50 mph wind gust frequent cloud to ground lighting and some small hail also verry heavy rain fall will fall with this line causing poundingon the usually roads that have pour drainage expesially the rosevelt boulvvard which is a bad area for brainage of water on the road way an isolated flood advisory/warning is possible

any area the storms hit along there path there is a possibilty for a few tree lims to fall or beranches even power outages will not be mouch of a problem with theses storms

for now it looks like new jersey has 505 chance oof seeing the storms but I will go in to farther detail in my next up date which will be posted at 4:30pm if there are any changes in betweenh now and then i will post it below in a comment.

thanks for reading my blog and be carefull if you have to drive some where this evening keep an eye out for my next upddate
