Cal U Stormcase: Day 2
Posted: (May 15, 2008 01:57 am)

Today was once again filled with chasing nothing. While there were a total of 6 tornado reports today according to the SPC, they were unfortunately located in mid- and mid-western TX. Since we were spending the night in Rolla, MO, getting to this area by the time the storms were occurring was near impossible, and most instability that was present that morning was gone before we could get into the area. However, we still made our way down through MO, OK, and eventually into northern TX hoping to at least see some storms. However, cloud cover slowed down afternoon storm production, so we did not even hit a rain shower. We eventually decided to stop for the day in Wichita Falls, TX, as it would be an idea location to start tomorrow, even if that is just to go sightseeing.

Some storms did form tonight in TX, although mostly further south than us. These did cause the issue of a Tornado Watch south of Dallas until 2am CDT, and several severe thunderstorm warnings.

Tomorrow's trek is unknown, as we do no expect the conditions to be favorable for chasing. According to the SPC, most of the storms will be in the southeast, including LA, MS, and AL, which are not the best states to try and chase in, not to mention they would require a long trek back east. This means we will most likely have an off day for sightseeing, which could include either making our way down to Dallas, or possibly going back north to OK.
