ANY SNOW LATE WEEK

DAY AND TIME                SURFACE           5000 FT     PRECIP.  THICKNESS

SAT 8PM 16-MAR              5.2                        4.9           0.23"            549
SUN 2AM16-MAR               8.2                        5.6           0.35"            548
SUN 8AM16-MAR               3.1                       -3.0           0.37"            538
SUN 2PM16-MAR               2.8                       -4.9           0.04"            532

The problem is the temps at the surface and about a mile up for the period on SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY EARLY MORNING. After that temps do drop aloft but look at the surface temps. They are still above freezing in the 36 to 40 degree range.  This is due to the March SUN warmth and angle in the sky. This would be snow in January but not MARCH.

 4day GFS SL Pres/Prec Plot

The map shows light precip over PA and NY State but the solid yellow line of 540 thickness is from Binghamton to Albany NY.  This is due to the LOW just north of the Great Lakes in Canada and a big HIGH offshore pumping in warmer air aloft and at the surface. (see LOWs and HIGHs in weather 101 of this site).

4day GFS 850 mb Plot

You can also see the 850mb/5000 feet temps (below 32f/0c) are Central NY and just north of the Mass State border. Just another indication that this will beand not come Friday and into the weekend. Sorry to bring the news but it's March and we just do not have the cold air at this point.
