It’s another gorgeous day in the Tri-State, but today’s sunshine will give way to a weekend storm bringing cooler air and a good threat for showers and thunderstorms, but there will be many dry hours, so after today you’ll have time on Sunday to do some garden work. I’ll have more on when the storms will hit in a moment.
Did you feel the earthquake this morning? I started my day (as I always do) on the Skyeye Weather Forum and I saw a thread (a topic) about an earthquake, but I assumed that it was some old discussion we had there until I read the posts in the thread and realized that it happened early this morning! Obviously I didn’t feel it, but many in the Tri-State and Midwest did. You can read more about it with some great links in my Skyeye Weather Blog: Skyeyeweather.com/Weather_Forum/index.php?showforum=17
An earthquake is an exciting way to kick off a weekend, but if you missed it there will be more rumbling late tonight, but this time it will be above-ground. A storm system moving east across Missouri will head into Illinois later today and Indiana tomorrow. Ahead of the low pressure center, scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed from Wisconsin to Louisiana and clouds associated with the rain have moved into western Indiana. We will see sunny skies most of the day before some clouds arrive later this afternoon and evening. Clouds will thicken overnight with scattered showers and thunderstorms very late tonight and early tomorrow morning. After highs in the mid 70s today (gorgeous!), we’ll drop only into the mid and upper 50s tonight.
The storm system will be weakening as it slowly crosses the Ohio Valley tomorrow and Sunday, but we’ll have a chance for showers and thunderstorms most of the day Saturday and Saturday night with some dry weather returning before midday Sunday. Before you change your outdoor plans, I should tell you that the rain will be scattered and I am not expecting it to be very heavy or last long. Anytime you have thunderstorms, though, you can have locally heavy rain but most areas will see scattered showers. Highs will be in the low 60s tomorrow.
Skies will remain mainly cloudy on Sunday but we’ll see a few breaks for sunshine in the afternoon as highs head into the mid and upper 60s. The warming continues early next week, but next week will be much different than the past week with almost daily chances for showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the 70s Monday and Tuesday.
Have a great weekend and enjoy today’s sunshine!
