Nor'easter Getting Closer To Mid Atlantic
Posted: (September 25, 2008 07:07 am)

A coastal low that is off of the Carolinas which is invest 94L is sure looking like a nice big nor'easter and a high pressure off of new England will pull it north. According to the NHC the storm still has a shot at becoming a tropical or sub tropical storm later today or tonight before it makes landfall as it’s possibly showing some tropical chararitcs and the hurricane hunters will check it out.

As fair as what the nor’easter will do in the mid Atlantic the models sure made a big shift as fair as how much rain were going to see. They show the heavy rain band that would potentially produce 3-6 inches of rain off the coast now so as far as the rain it’s not going to be as bad due to this shift. Also it appears the storm will be coming in a little later. Around late Thursday afternoon into Friday and Friday night look for showers and possibly some periods of rain. Saturday there could still be some showers as well into Saturday night as the low pressure moves to the north although invest 93L could possibly add to are weather on Saturday depending on how it tracks which I talk about below but first here are the affects from are coastal storm.

Invest 94L affects

Main threats with this storm will be, strong winds, Coastal Flooding, High Surf, And Dangerous Rip Currents.

-Look for 1-3 inches of rain in total with this.

-Wave heights between 10-15 ft will be possible along the NJ coast.

-Due to pressure gradient between the coastal low and high pressure winds well to the north and northwest of the low pressure will be possible and some could approach hurricane force winds. Between 40-60 mph will be possible along the coast with winds between 20-40mph will be possible inland.

As fair as invest 93L it’s starting to get pulled north by the coastal low and once it gets more north the high pressure will continue to pull it north. The storm is becoming more organized as it’s entering an area that’s more favorable for development and this could become a depression over the next day or two.

If it develops or not the storm will head towards long/Rhode Island on Saturday. It’s also possible it goes just east of them and affects places to the north of here. It looks like the low pressure will stay well east of the NJ coast but don’t let your guard down because anything is still possible. Depending how is tracks if this heads towards long/Rhode island like a lot of models are showing it’s possible that this could add into what the coastal system will be producing on Saturday in the Mid Atlantic and this could possibly bring a period of rain to us and it could possibly add around an inch of rain to whatever we have all ready.
