Heavy rains, and Ike...update
Posted: (September 13, 2008 10:10 pm)

Ike has now been downgraded to a Tropical Depression. He is racing off to the northeast, and flooding will be a continued threat where he tracks.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Tropical Storm Lowell formed off the coast of Mexico, and moved over the Baja of California, and then back into Mexico. Lowell, and its remnants sent a surge of moisture Northeastward right through our region. This tropical airmass interacted with a cold front, and the result was rain, and some heavy with tropical downpours. We have been dealing with rain since Thursday, and it is still raining as Ike is sending some of its moisture north tonight, which is just adding to the rain totals. Rain totals have ranged from 1 to 5+ inches around the area which has caused flooding, and this additional rainfall tonight will just continue to agrivate the flood threat.

Here is the 24 hour rainfall forecast as Ike pushes through southern Missouri:

The rain should continue to fill in tonight, and push out tomorrow morning as Ike rapidly pushed south of us. I think the computer model is under forecasting the rainfall. There is potential for 3-5+ inches through St. Louis.

Hurricane Ike roared ashore as a very powerful Category 2 Hurricane with winds of 110 mph. That made it 1 mph under Category 3 (major Hurricane) status. The eye came ashore right near Galveston, and worked its way through Houston, and has now weakened to a 40 mph Tropical Storm as he is southern Oklahoma pushing NNE. He should rapidly push NE through Southern Missouri.

Here is the projected track for Ike:

This system will leave a path of very heavy rain as it gets absorbed into a cold front, and a chain of isolated tornadoes.
