Ike's Official Landfall, 3:10 am Philly Time, Where ?
Posted: (September 13, 2008 04:23 am)

                                   Good Morning

Ike Officially made Landfall as a High Cat-2 in the city of Galveston,TX, At the Early Hour of 3:10 am EDT, Max Sustained winds of 110 mph, with Higher Gusts, 953mb. But I believe the Worst of the Winds were in the Northeastern Quadrant, I heard Port Arthur took on alot of the Force. The Eye Of Ike is Actually Encompassing the entire Galveston Bay at time of Blog. The Bay took the Direct hit as far as Landfall after Galveston Island.

As the Center moved over Galveston Island the Surrounding Circulation Wrapped Hurricane Force Winds around the Periphery of the Eyewall on each side of  Galveston Bay. Reports of over 100 mph winds were, and are still common around the Center. The worst of the Winds Should avoid Down town Houston, but just to the East of Houston they are getting Very Strong Wrap around Hurricane Force Winds Now. But any Deviation to the West as Ike Spins thru Gal Bay, Down town Houston can see 100 mph Winds, especially in the Higher Atmosphere. They are moving from North to South on the West side of the Circulation. The Eye is moving North at 10 mph and seems to be a bit slower. The Return Circulation around the Center is Strong and Re- Enforcing from the Southwest Quadrant. And is producing very heavy rains everywhere except over the Bay Area.

Anywhere East of Gal Bay has been in the Southerly Component for Hours, and will continue for Many more Hours, this would be  High Island, Port Arthur, Sabine Pass, and over to Cameron Louisiana. This is where the Most Water has Piled up, and the Stronger outer Bands have been Batterring them all Night with Persistent Straight Southerly Bands.
Often the Landfall Location gets all the Attention,  when at the same time the Worst areas get Under Reported, this will be the case with Eastern Texas, and Western Louisiana, Historic Damage will be The Story here as well as Storm Surge Flooding.

The Southern Eyewall is moving back over Galveston now, and has alot more to the South coming North as will be the case as Ike moves north thru the Bay. Alot of areas will still be affected for many hours Today, because Ike's Influence is Far Reaching. The winds on the South side are just as Strong as the North Side. Again there is an Immense area of Moisture still to move thru from the South.

Flooding, and windows blown out of Buildings, this storm will last for a long time today, and it will still Wreak Havoc even Hundreds of miles Inland. Appaarently Ike Wobbled West enough to Hit Houston Proper with Stong Hurricane Winds.
