Taste of Fall
Good evening everyone. The region saw a round of showers and thunderstorms today. Some of the storms were strong and some places got a nice amount of rainfall. This was all courtesy of a cold front that will continue to move through the region tonight and clear the area overnight. Since the front hasn't cleared the region yet, a shower is still possible, because there is still some marginally instability. The round of activity that come through today stablized the atmosphere, so that's why there is now only marginally instablitly. The humidity is still fairly high. Once the front clears the region tonight, that humidity is really going to drop and high pressure is going to build in for tomorrow and Wednesday. That is going to mean pretty cool temperatures and I would say this will qualify as a good taste of fall weather. This is a canadian air mass coming folks. Cool temps+dry air=crisp fall like weather.
Tomorrow is going to feature a lot of sunshine and low humidity. Highs tomorrow will range from the upper 60s in the Lehigh valley to the mid 70s in the southern parts of the region. It's going to be a beautiful, September day. A cool, crisp day tomorrow will only lead to a very cool, clear night tomorrow under that area of high pressure. Tomorrow night looks to be the coolest night of the season thus far. Lows tomorrow night will range from the 40s to mid 50s across the region. Places from Philly/south and east should have the lows in the low to mabey mid 50s. If your north and west of Philly , expect lows in the 40s. Places in the northern part of PA, including parts of the northern Lehigh valley could see lows dip into the upper 30s tomorrow night. Yes, scattered frost is possible in those places.
Thursday should be just as nice as Wednesday. Lots of sunshine will be featured in the forecast along with very similar highs to Tuesday. It will be another beautiful September day. Thursday night will be another cool night, but it won't be as chilly as Wednesday night, because there looks to be more clouds that should limit the cooling. Sill expect 50s in much of the region and 40s in northern parts.
This airmass coming is another sign that fall is just a short walk away. This little "chill" will make it seem fall is settling in.
More rain to end the week?
The past few days the possibilty of more rain has been in the forecast for late week/the weekend. Possible showers have been talked about. As of these evening it looks like we will see some rain(showers and storms.), but the question is when will it arrive A cold front is going to be moving toward the area late this week/weekend. A little area of low pressure could form with it. The uncertainity is when this front will come in. It looks like it could be a slow mover, but the time frame looks to possibily be this weekend. Showers are possible from later Friday through Sunday. This does not look to be anything like the rain of last weekend. Infact no day should even be a wash out. It should just be scattered showers and storms. At this point it looks that the front should clear the region by Monday. Stay tuned over the next few days for when the front will exactly come through . At this point I will just say that Friday-Sunday will be unsettled. I can say that after the front clears out, another Canadian air mass should build in for early- mid next week.
Ike Update
Ike has moved over Cuba and it is now back over open waters in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Ike has weakened a lot as it moved over Cuba, but it did damage to Cuba and it is expected to regain strength in in the Gulf of Mexico. The current forecast calls for Ike to become a major Hurricane again, category 3 at this point. Warm waters and low windshear should allow for Ike to strengthen. The same thing should not happen with Ike as it did with Gustav, where Gustav did not strengthen in the Gulf, because of windshear.
Now where will Ike make landfall. Well, a few days ago it looked like that anywhere from the Florida Panhandle to Lousiania would be possible targets. It was looking like Ike would mabey hit Louisiana again. However the path has now shifted south and west and it looks like Ike will make landfall in Texas. Why did the path shift south and west? Why will Ike probably hit Texas? Well there is a big ridge in the Eastern United states that will block Ike from making landfall in the Central Gulf. It is acting as a baricade. That means that Ike will have no other place to go, it won't have a choice but to hit further west and south into Texas.
Ike could make landfall in Texas on late Friday or Saturday. Ike is expected to be a major Hurricane at landfall(cat.3 or higher). That could cause significant problems for Texas. Stay tuned over the next few days. Ike is a significant threat to the U.S.
Think weatherwise, not otherwise
