Fay??
Posted: (August 15, 2008 08:16 am)

Good Morning,

Just a quick update.  I was thinking yesterday that what could or would become Fay would be very close to Puerto Rico and it is this morning.  As a matter of fact it is pretty much crossing right through the center of Puerto Rico wth torrrential rains.

It is more than likely going to become a depression today because there is a rather well defined circulation at least according to the radar, whether or not it has a closed circulation that is debatable.

Puerto Rico will keep the intenstity of this system in check as too will Hispaniola.  The system will not get going until it clears these mountainous regions.  This is what I was getting at yesterday.

For now it will hold its own and should really get itself together later today and tonight as it moves away from Puerto Rico and Hispanola and moves towards the Bahamas.

Interestest along the Flordia East Coast should monitor the situation.

Pitcher

The comparison was to Randy Johnson, aka "The Big Unit." He was talking about Johnson when he was coming up, a fireballer who lacked control. Once he learned some control, he realized his potential. So the analogy was that if this storm can get it's control, it can become very powerful.

They are not upgrading it

Because it does not have a low level circulation. To them, it's just an open wave. Before I went to bed last night (after 10:50 ) Jim Cantore came on and explained the system really well. He explained this system as a pitcher in baseball (who's name I forget.) Now, he said this pitcher threw the baseballs so fast, but continuously walked people as it was outside the strike zone. But when he threw that ball in the zone, he stuck people out. At that time, Jim said that the storm was throwing balls, but once it starts throwing strikes (past Hispaniola) it will really start getting its act together.
