Slow-motion Lightning
This is a clip of a lightning strike in slow-motion. It shows how the lightning forms, strikes, and dissipates, which is normally easy to miss. Usually, flashes of lightning are a fraction of a second's affair, so apart from the forks of lightning themselves we don't really see what happens after. But if you use a high-speed camera like in this video, you can "slow down" the lightning and observe the entire life span of a lightning bolt. With the naked eye lightning bolts seem to just disappear quickly into thin air after they strike but they actually disintegrate and dissipate, like something burning really quickly. The next time you go out filming a lightning storm, try bringing a high-speed camera with you and capture these magnificent forces of nature.
