Typhoon Durian
Typhoon Durian was the 7th super typhoon of the 2006 Pacific typhoon season. Durian had maximum wind speeds of 155km/h, enough to wreak much havoc on tropical countries. Also called 'Reming' in the Philippines, it made its first landfall there before moving on to Vietnam. Shown here is a video of the typhoon while it was in the Philippines. The heavy rain significantly reduced visibility, and the strong winds nearly uprooted trees and cut off power cables. During its stay in the Philippines, Durian killed about 720 people, forced thousands of people to evacuate, caused over $100 million in damage, and prompted several countries to send aid. Once it moved to Vietnam Durian killed a few hundred more people, raising the total death toll to at least 1,500 people, and causing an additional $400 million in damages. Durian was a truly destructive weather system. To help prepare for this kind of weather, log on to MyWeatherLive.com for weather news, weather reports, and weather forecasts.
