Hurricane Agnes
This is one of the very few videos of Hurricane Agnes in June 1972. Unfortunately the video has no sound, but you can still see the destructive fury. Agnes formed several tornadoes over Florida as it moved northward through the Gulf of Mexico. Agnes was the first hurricane of the 1972 Atlantic hurricane season. It had a maximum speed of 140km/h, but at the time was quite damaging. Agnes directly caused 129 deaths and $11.9 billion in damages, through heavy rainfall. The worst damage was seen in central Maryland, central Pennsylvania, and the Finger Lakes region of New York. It had a devastating impact on the railroads of the northeastern United States.
