Hurricane Fran
Hurricane Fran was one of the powerful storms in the 1996 Atlantic hurricane season that made landfall in North Carolina. It was a Category 3 storm, formed on August 23. It had sustained winds of up to 195km/h and directly caused the death of 26 people. It also caused $3.2 billion in damages and affected 6 areas: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In all of the affected areas there were extensive floods, power outages due to power line damage, and infrastructure damage. North Carolina suffered the most because Fran made landfall directly on Carolina Beach. Fran finally dissipated on September 8, 1996, but the floods didn't subside until a few days later.
