F5 Tornado in Fargo, North Dakota
This is a video of the extremely devastating F-5 tornado that hit Fargo, North Dakota in June 20, 1957. It struck the Golden Ridge area in the early evening, causing major destruction. Over 1,000 homes were destroyed, and some of them were completely thrown into the air. As many as 13 people died in the disaster, even though the tornado traveled only 15 km. The tornado itself is massive however, measuring about 700 feet wide. Debris was found as far as western Minnesota, more than 50 miles from Fargo. The impact of this tornado was so huge that the catastrophe has been commemorated for 50 years (2007 being the 50th year). This tornado was one of the only two F-5 tornadoes to hit the state, the first one from 4 years earlier. You'll never know when a weather disturbance this severe can hit your area.
