Hurricane Frances
Day and night time footage of Hurricane Frances in Jupiter, Florida on September 5, 2004. Frances was the third major hurricane of the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season. She sustanined maximum wind speeds of 230km/h, which gives it a strength of Category-4 in the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. Frances passed over Florida in the US, and her outer reaches affected Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands. Because it struck during Labor Day weekend, many hotel reservations were cancelled as soon as people heard the weather reports, as well as seeing the effects of Hurricane Charley a few weeks earlier. Frances caused 6 deaths--five in Florida and one in Ohio--while 42 more deaths are indirectly attributed to the hurricane. The strength of the hurricane can be seen in the video and it shows just how capable Frances was to cause such widespread damage, especially around night time. The hurricane lasted a few days and in its wake left massive destruction. Like the tourists who cancelled their reservations in Florida hotels, it would be wise for everyone to listen to weather forecasts and weather reports.
