Typhoon Chata'an
Typhoon Chata'an claimed as many as 39 lives on July of 2002 before heading towards Guam. Guam was placed on Typhoon Condition One, which is the highest level. Chata'an brough ttorrential rain, uprooted trees, and shook buildings; fortunately there were no deaths or injuries. The storm had gusts of up to 195 kph and due to damage to power lines, most of the island was left without electricity. Thanks to preparation--boarding up windows and stocking on food--casualties were averted. If it weren't for that the storm could have easily killed at least a few people through debris flying into windows or people going out to buy food and getting swept by the wind.
