Hurricane Frederic
Another classic natural disaster! Hurricane Frederic was the second major hurricane of the 1979 Atlantic hurricane season. It was also one of the costliest hurricanes to ever hit the US Gulf Coast. Before landing in Alabama on September 12, 1979, it had weakened to tropical-storm strength, but it greeted the coast with 125 mph winds and a 12-foot storm surge. Frederic killed 9 people and caused $6.5 billion in damages, and hit several areas including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Mississippi, and of course Alabama. The video features the damage caused by the hurricane. For more weather news and weather videos, visit www.MyWeatherLive.com.
