A January Like Weekend/Snow Monday Night into Tuesday??

Well some places had their first measurable snow of the season last night and today as the lake effect snow machine was turned on thanks to a reinforcing shot of cold air moving in. It was a very interesting past 24 hours as some places had several inches across the region. I haven't see lake effect snow give the region this much snow before. It was very impressive that lake effect snow would hold that strong east of the mountains. Anyway the lake effect snow machine is going to be turned off...

Examining the models

When we are looking at the models right now for this upcoming event, should we be adjusting the temps because we are not in the true winter season yet? Like we do as we approach Spring? Just a thought.

Cold Weekend. Snow Monday Night?

Today and this weekend is going to be nice but cold with sun and clouds as high pressure is in control. Tonight look for lows around 23. Tomorrow look for highs around 35 with lows around 22. Sunday will be slightly warmer as high pressure starts to slide off the coast with highs around 40 and lows around 30.

Moving onto Monday here is when things get interesting on a possible storm that could bring are first significant snowfall to our area especially north and west of Philly and what the...

Winter Weather Forecasts I Saw Last Night

Good Afternoon All,

Winter Weather Forecasts I saw last night:

Glen Hurricane Channel 10 his forecast was something like this below ( Now I was calling for 23-33 inches so what the heck) but at the end he said that the National Weather Service predicted an above normal temperture profile with below normal snowfall so he said this too could happen. Well, then which one is it 25-35 inches or above normal temperatures and below normal snowfall??

Snowfall 25-35 inhces wow!!!

A couple observations on Monday's possible storm

Some observations on the Monday-Tuesday event:

I think this is not a big precip producer at this point

I think that it is unlikely that we stay all snow as some blogs are stating. Even in the Lehigh Valley.

One thing that is good for us is that I think this storm will get held up in its progression northeastward. I think this will allow cold air to catch up to the moisture. We may get a few inches out of this not because of heavy precip but because of the amount of ...

MONDAY STORM THOUGHTS---1ST WIDOW MAKER OF THE YEAR APPEARS ON GFS!!!

my afternoon thoughts

1.I'm a little hesitant to call for a snowstorm next week, since I am still not sold on the idea of coastal cyclogenesis and the ground or surface temps being cold enough for snow to stick.

2.The first WIDOW MAKER of the year as appeared in hour 368 of the GFS as 980MB low is off New Jersey

3.The Widow Maker is too far out to take seriously at this time

for those of you new to my blog I will define a widow maker for you: Now HM uses the term big daddy, so th...

A Winter Storm May Be Coming!!

Good Afternoon All,

just a quick update.

It looks like the cold air is really going to hold its ground here over the next 15 days and things are looking likely that there will be a Winter Storm Soon!!

I am looking closely at Monday Night 11/24 into Tuesday 11/25 as a rain changing to snow event and yes this could our first significant chance of snow for the Delaware Valley especially Philadelphia north and west.

Showing up on the models today is also a Major Winter Storm down the ...

GFS and Pattern

Good Morning,

Just a quick update on the GFS....

I looked at it just quickly at 00z last night and I will say this wow that is a very cold pattern that eventually spreads out to more of the country its implications for us mean it stays colder gets colder and yes snow between now and the first week of December.

Ithas been a very long time since I have seen such a persistent cold weather pattern and chances are going into December we will see a significant snow storm.
