Pierre, SD blasted through its previous record high of 88 degrees today, with a current high temperature of 91 degrees! It will be interesting to see if other records bite the dust in the Northern Plains, and I am sure they will. Fire danger remains high with strong southwest winds, hot temps, and low humidity.
However, fear not, this will not last much longer. A cold front coming through tonight will knock temperatures back down to sanity, and by the middle of next week, some bona fide cold temperatures are likely to appear as another deep trough cuts off from the main flow and traverses the northern part of the country with decent late-season snows all but a certainty in the mountains in MT and points west. Whether or not accumulated snow finds the West North Central region again remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, there will be more unseasonable cold in the Northern Plains before warm conditions can take hold for good.
It Could Be a Few More Weeks.

It looks to me like the Northern Plains are liable to have outbreaks of significantly below normal temperatures through the end of the month. My crystal ball doesn't go out much further than that, but I will have a better idea of what the month of May will have in store in a week or so. That being said, I think significant snowfalls are going to be tough to get next week as a pretty good arctic airmass moves into the Northern Plains.
How much longer do you think were in for cold this spring?

How much more cold do you think we have left before the temps start to steady out in the mid to upper 70's?
