Lesson to be learned from "big rain storm" in Northeast today. Computer models are nice to have but there is nothing that will replace the human mind.
NAM and GFS were both pumping out 2-3 inches of rain for NYC with this storm. So far as of 11am, only .20 inches of rain has fallen. Most of the heaviest rain is now moving off the New Jersey coast.
Rain is ending in Delaware and breaking up in NJ. We will be lucky to get an inch.
We saw this last night, showed the model on air and explained why we didn't think we would get 3 inches.
This is to the younger mets out there. Models are great, but you must look to see what is happening at the moment and see if you believe what the model is predicting. Don't get "tunnel-vision" looking at maps and numbers. Mother Nature doesn't know how to read MOS.....LOL
