We are entering a very busy week of travel and we are watching not only some snow and rain out west but along the east coast. The big question is what is snow and what is rain ? The impact on travel by car and air could make for a messy, delayed week for many. Let's take a look at what is going on out there.
EAST COAST IMPACT...
Right now the system for Monday night and Tuesday along the East Coast is a RAIN maker so I will not get into all that much. Even in the Poconos the temps warmed up on the new NAM run just in a few minutes ago. So this is a non winter event at the moment. Sure maybe some snow showers on the back end but with the low going up to Michigan we all know in November that is RAIN not SNOW.
NOVEMBER 29-30 (THANKSGIVING WEEKEND)
Ahhh this could be the one to watch as the track is right now in a favorable position off the East Coast. This is a LA-PHOENIX-ALBUQUERQUE-DALLAS-NASHVILLE-NORFOLK VA-SOUTH OF CAPE COD TRACK.
Looking over new information coming in this morning I see a few things going on. Out in the Southwest US a LOW will drop down and may or may not CLOSE off. This would mean a piece of that CLOSED low would eject out of the SW and travel east. The track and amount of cold air will dictate the snow chances along the East Coast. Climo says rain so don't get too excited right now.
The track for the weekend is Memphis to the coast of VA and up to Cape Cod. This is the GFS outlook and that means RAIN along the East Coast not snow. No big HIGH up north to tap into so being late November not January and no real cold air we lean 70% Rain 30% chance of snow for I-95 cities. 35-40% chance of snow after the front in the Poconos, Hudson Valley, Capital District.

Do you give any credence to the JMA or euro? They are playing up a decent storm for the east coast for sat-sun time period. Big low off the coast of NJ.

My son has a three day soccer torny this weekend .How great would it be if we all go skiing instead . The nws is forcasting rain for this weekend do you really think there will be enough cold air to support snow ?
