Major Rain Situation and Possible Flooding in Mid Atlantic
Posted: (April 18, 2008 03:54 pm)

The upper level energy moving through the nation's midsection will cut off from the mean flow and meander eastward through Virginia, cutting underneath the main ridge.  This will aim a huge plume of moisture at the MidAtlantic by Sunday afternoon and Monday.  This is something the ECMWF has been picking up on for several days!

In summary, expect much colder temps off of east and southeast flow from Virginia on north.  An narrow area of a few inches of rain could develop as this upper level low stalls and a deep, moist flow is aimed in a rather small area.  This could create some flooding problems in and around the Potomac River.  Definitely stay tuned.
