NORBERT COULD BE A PROBLEM FOR TEXAS, NEW MEXICO & ARIZONA
Posted: (October 08, 2008 01:12 pm)

Hurricane Norbert churns in the Pacific and eventhough it's no threat to the US right now, it could bring problems to the desert Southwest later this weekend.  It's a decent storm for this late in the season off the Mexican coast with winds of 125 or a mid Category 3.  The NHC or Nat'l Hurricane Center has this coming in as a Category 2 but could be a tropical storm as it comes in New Mexico or Arizona.  The models are leaning toward lower central New Mexico with El Paso maybe in the heavy rain zone.

The desert is dry as you all know and even with 1-2" of tropical like rain you can get flash flooding and property issues.  The models will change as we head into tomorrow but the issue of flooding for Texas/Arizone and New Mexico will probaly remain regardless of the final track.

I'll have a much bigger update later today or this evening.
