Convective Heat Burst
Posted: (August 05, 2008 02:57 pm)

I must say, one of the things I love about being a meteorologist is that even though we are trained on how the dynamics of the atmosphere works, there's just some things that can still boggle you.  However, given time you can understand them quite easily.  If someone would've asked me my freshman/sophomore year if the temp could rise almost 30 degrees in 16 minutes, I would've been quick to say no.   Even after taking thermodynamics, I would've said yes, but came back with the "well let me see it in the real world, then i'll believe it" saying.  Well here it is:  http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=fsd&storyid=17106&source=0

Fascinating!

I read that article and that is crazy! 101 at 4-something in the morning, too. I know I read it, but I still don't believe it. It is truly fascinating to me all the dynamics in play that may never be fully understood why they happen.
