WINTER-LIKE PATTERN BRINGS A FEW CHANCES OF SNOW THIS MONTH
Posted: (November 18, 2008 12:00 pm)

I have been tracking the GFS model and it does hint at some snow for the Mid Atlantic region but this is later this month not this week. I do see the snow showers on Friday with .03" precip for Philly. By afternoon we could see wet snow or light rain showers, more of a teaser if anything else. The system on the 24th is off the books right now but a more significanr system could be brewing toward the 30th of November. This is all part of the small early winter events I mentioned in the Winter Outlook Blog.

The GFS has a rain to snow situation with 1-3" of snow possible on the 30th. Yes it is 12 days away and this will certainly change. I do think the pattern gets better in 10 days not really now.  The pattern is sill trying to establish itself so we'll see a better chance toward the 30th and first two weeks of December.

Look at the RED lines which are trying to dip toward the end of the month, a small signal for a possible east
coast MIXED event.

It looks like the Late Month event starts as an OKIE from SKOKIE and slides past St. Louis rolls to Columbus Ohio.
After that the GFS tries to take the energy and shift it though the PA mountains to Philadelphia.  That usually DOES NOT HAPPEN
so I give this November 30th system a 30% chance of actually following that track.  My thinking is it slides more north and into the Hudson Valley
via State College PA to Albany NY.

I like the NAO going negative after Dec. 1st it is a good sign.

Man is it cold out here in Media right now at nearly 8PM 30 degrees winds are gusting easily to 30-35 mph and wind chills are loooooowww.
